Lot Essay
Ordered for the Dutch market and based on Delft prototypes, these dishes were shipped in two sizes, the "two fish" and the narrower "one fish", primarily in the 1770s. C.J.A. Jorg (Porcelain and the Dutch China Trade, pp. 179-80) cites the original orders and prices for different seasons. A "one fish" example in the Mottahedeh collection is illustrated with a Delft example by Howard & Ayers (op. cit., p. 85) and D.S. Howard (Choice of the Private Trader) illustrates a pair of "one fish" dishes from the Hodroff collection.
