Lot Essay

Edward Chow and Helen Ling were both internationally known dealers/collectors of Chinese Ceramics. Chow began collecting as a teenager in Shanghai in the 1920s. Ling, born in Ohio, became a well-respected dealer and collector in China and Singapore. The two volume set, Hall of Disciplined Learning, illustrates ceramics collected by E.T. Chow. The two-volume set, Hall of Leisurely Pastime, illustrates ceramics from the collection of M.C. Wang, a banker in pre-war China. Most of the important Song ceramics in the M.C. Wang collection are now in the Cleveland Museum of Art.

A set of these four volumes from the Falk Collection was sold in these rooms, 20 September 2001, lot 233.
