Made in imitation of Song dynasty prototype, of rounded shape with lobed everted handle, covered overall with an opaque glaze of mottled pale and dark blue tone thinning on the edges and also covering the rounded base which has three spur marks showing the dark brown ware
7 3/8 in. (8.8 cm.) across, wood stand, box

Lot Essay

This unusual vessel was made in imitation of Song dynasty prototypes such as the two Junyao bowls of the same rounded shape with flanged handle, and spur marks on the rounded base, included in the Oriental Ceramic Society exhibition, The Arts of the Sung Dynasty, TOCS, vol. 32, 1959-1960, pl. 23, no. 43 and pl. 24, no. 42.
