TWO MEISSEN FIGURE GROUPS, 'EUROPA AND THE BULL' AND 'DRUNKEN SILENUS'
19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARKS, INCISED 2697 AND 2724, IMPRESSED 59 AND 86, PAINTED 42. AND 12., RESPECTIVELY, AFTER THE MODELS BY F.E. MEYER, SILENUS LATER REWORKED BY F.E. LEUTERITZ
The first with the scantily clad nymph seated on the back of the disguised Jupiter, flanked by kneeling and seated attendant maidens, one offering Europa a flower taken from a basket; the second with the besotted figure slumped on an ass wearing a crown of grapevine, an attendant steadying him, another feeding the animal while a putto tugs its tail, each on a rocky rocaille-moulded base
