The vitalitly of the dragons depicted on this waterpot typifies the free carving of the late Ming dyansty which would become more restictive and formailsed with the advent of the Qing dynasty.
No other waterpots of this form appear to have been published. Cf. similar carving on two cups with dragon handles in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Treasures of the Palace Museum - Jadeware (II), Hong Kong, 1995, pp. 248-249, nos. 191 and 192; compare also another two handled cup in the Gerald Godfrey Collection, sold in these Rooms, 30 October 1995, lot 898.
