FIRST EDITION THUS. RARE. ABPC records just one copy at auction in over 35 years (Christie's, 5 November 1980, lot 152; sold 4000). The views include Thoune, the castles at Oberhofen and Spiez, Interlaken, the summit of Jungfrau, the glaciers at Grindelwald and Roseloui, and others. Most of the plates appeared in oblong quarto in 1796, also rare, as Vierzehn ansichten im Oberlande; the present 1812 edition uses new text, by the Bernese statesman Philippe Stapfer, and alternate views for plates 8 and 9. Brunet III-453.
