Lot Essay

Huguet studied in Marseilles under the direction of the painter Émile Loubon. He visited Egypt in 1852, and the Crimea in 1853. Huguet also travelled to Algeria, a place that inspired many of his subsequent subjects. Over the years, his technique gradually became more Impressionistic, and his colours grew progressively brighter.
