The composition derives from the painting by Jean Ranc in the Prado, Madrid (inv. no. 2335).
This painting is accompanied by a letter dated 18 June 1969 by Xavier de Salas, Deputy Director of the Museo del Prado, Madrid, stating that the painting is probably one of several copies made by Jean Ranc and studio.
