A BRONZE 'BOY ON BUFFALO' CENSER
QING DYNASTY, 17TH-18TH CENTURY
The censer is cast in two sections as a boy seated on top of a water buffalo. The buffalo is shown with its head turned back, its hollowed body forming the censer, the rider forming the cover with both hands raised, possibly holding an instrument, and a double-gourd hanging on his back.
