Lot Essay

A similar everted rim carved as ruyi heads can be seen on two white jade lian, or bowls, with covers in the Qing Court Collection, Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 42 - Jadeware (III), Hong Kong, 1995, pls. 197 and 198, both of which are dated Qing dynasty. The style of carving seen in pl. 197, especially on the cover which has similar linked ruyi lappets, appears to be very similar to that of the present bowl.
