Lot Essay

A smaller huanghuali corner-leg table of similar design, but with stepped pierced corner spandrels of slightly more elongated proportions, is illustrated by Gustav Ecke in Chinese Domestic Furniture, Vermont and Tokyo, 1962, pls. 66-68, no. 51. The depth of the table, measuring almost 36 inches, is rare. Tables of this size could have been used as painting tables.
