    Lot Essay

William J. Mann, in his unauthorised biography of Katharine Hepburn Kate: The Woman Who Was Hepburn, alleges that Hepburn conducted affairs with both men and women including Laura Harding. Whether this allegation is spurious or not, the correspondence in this lot shows that they were friends between the 1960s until the 1990s. Hepburn frequently mentions Laura's name, her stroke and failing health.
