Lot Essay

This is the only known copy of this poster. Posters from this period in the Beatles' history are exceptionally rare and only a handful of posters documenting their appearances at the Cavern Club are known to be in existence. In fact, this is the earliest Beatles concert poster ever offered at Christie's.

The Beatles made 292 appearances at the Cavern Club between February, 1961 and August, 1963. The club witnessed some pivotal moments in Beatles history, with Brian Epstein first watching the Beatles there on 9 November, 1961. This poster dates from a time when the Beatles had secured their recording contract with Parlophone in June of 1962 and had just released their debut single Love Me Do in October, 1962.
