Lot Essay

The art of Abdurrahman Oztoprak is influenced both by European classical music and by European kinetic painting. As he explains "I have always desired motion in paintings because of musics influence on meIt is necessary for art to be abstract to correspond to the abstract concept of music."
Oztoprak spent the 1960s researching the work of kinetic artists in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Of them he said" These interesting works; produced from motor power, play of light; various materials and objects; neither had a relation to canvas nor a chance of replication. What I desired to achieve was to express kinetics on a normal canvas without the use of any supplementary materials."
