Lot Essay

We are grateful to Everett Fahy for confirming the attribution on the basis of photographs.

Known to be in Rome by the end of the 1480s, Pastura's first years as an artist were spent in the entourage of Perugino, Pinturicchio and Antoniazzo. Assistant to Pinturicchio in the decoration of the study of Pope Alexander IV Borgia in the Vatican until 1495, and in the Duomo of Orvieto until 1499, Pastura painted several versions, with differences of composition, of this type, including those in the Louvre, Paris; the National Gallery, London; the Museo di Capodimonte in Naples and the Sz©epmüv©eszeti Muz©eum in Budapest.
