The Crooked Rose

Richards was commissioned in 1947 to illustrate the poem The Force that through the Green Fuse drives the Flower (1933) by Dylan Thomas. This inspired Richards to paint further works and lithographs related to Thomas's writings and the work of other poets. The title from the present work is taken from this poem.
