Lot Essay

Delphin Enjolras studied under Jean-Léon Gérôme at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris. He soon realised that he excelled at painting female figures in calm, contemporary affluent interiors, imbued with a soft light. In the present lot this characteristic muted lighting welcomes us into a grand interior and into the card game itself.
