Lot Essay

Dod Procter and her husband Ernest Procter (1886-1935) spent most of their lives in the artists' colony in Newlyn; her work is mostly associated with the local countryside and its community. She was a prolific exhibitor at the Royal Academy and although her most renowned works are her female nudes (see lot 31), Proctor painted exquisite flower studies, inspired by the flowers in and around her Newlyn cottage.
