Henry-Jules-Jean Geoffroy was a painter and sculptor born at Marennes in the Charente-Maritime to the West of France. A student of Jules-Clement Levasseur, he began exhibiting at the Salon de Paris in 1874 and was a member of Les Artistes Français, earning many distinctions, even the prestigious award of Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur.

He made his reputation by painting compositions of children. This is one of his largest and most accomplished works. He manages to convey an undeniable sincerity and naive charm to the setting.
His works are shown in museums such as Amiens, Bayeux and Birmingham.
