Lot Essay

Honoré Boze was born in Mauritius. He spent most of his life in Marseilles, where he attended Émile Loubon's classes at the École des Beaux-Arts. He exhibited in many regional salons and at the Paris Salon between 1860 and 1881. He made several expeditions to Algeria where he painted Orientalist landscapes.

It is interesting to note that Heinrich Schliemann, the original owner, was the archaeologist who rediscovered Troy.
