Lot Essay

This painting is a copy with slight variations after a composition by Aelbert Cuyp (see Hofstede de Groot, 1908, nr. 59b). Most notable, the card playing soldiers in the centre of the composition in Cuyp's original were changed by Van Stry into his typical herdsmen and cows.
