Lot Essay

In January 1815, having been blockaded in New York for a year by the Royal Navy, U.S.S. President engaged the British frigate H.M.S. Endymion off the coast of the city. She was captured soon afterwards by a British squadron and taken into the service of the Royal Navy as H.M.S. President until broken up in 1818.
