Lot Essay
In this still life by the expressionist painter, Phillipp Bauknecht, the rhythm of the colours and forms become almost an abstract. The red of the petals and the green of the leaves contrast effectively with the blue background. These colours meet again in his depiction of the vase, and are accentuated by the yellow-orange tones through which Bauknecht expresses his enthusiasm for nature, in particular for plants. The painter, who lived in Davos for many years caused by illness where he created most of his work, gives expression here to how his experience of nature is a central motif of his work.
This work will be incorporated into the inventory of oil paintings of Phillipp Bauknecht by Gioia Smid und Iris Wazzau.
