Lot Essay

We are grateful to Professor Daniele Benati for confirming the attribution, on the basis of photographs, and for proposing a date to around the 1550s, comparing the painting with the signed Holy Family with the Infant Saint John the Baptist, Saint Jerome and a Martyr Saint in the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne.
