    Photographs

    3 April 2026 - 17 April 2026, New York
  • Auction overview

The Christie’s spring Photographs auction in New York presents engaging and important works from across the history of the medium. With more than 250 lots, the sale offers a wide-ranging survey of photography for both new and seasoned collectors. Notably, many works are offered with no reserve or extremely low opening bids.

Several important private collections are included this season. Highlights feature a dye transfer print of Irving Penn’s iconic Ginkgo Leaves, New York, 1990; two striking portraits of Georgia O’Keeffe by Alfred Stieglitz; and vintage photographs by Eugène Atget, Edward Weston, Paul Strand and Man Ray, among others. Particularly rare works include a multi-process pigment and silver print by Edward Steichen and a unique photogram by László Moholy-Nagy.

Further highlights of 20th-century photography include an excellent selection of artist portraits by Irving Penn, as well as significant works by Henri Cartier-Bresson, André Kertész and others. These are offered alongside post-war and contemporary images by Richard Avedon, Diane Arbus, Helmut Newton, Andy Warhol, Nan Goldin, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Sally Mann, Andreas Gursky and many more.

As market leaders in the category, the Christie’s spring Photographs auction offers collectors the opportunity to acquire works of the highest quality and historical importance.
