COLLECTOR/CONNOISSEUR: The Max N. Berry Collections Monotypes by Maurice Brazil Prendergast Online Sale

    19 December 2025 - 27 January 2026, New York
  • Auction overview

Collector, connoisseur, patron — Max N. Berry’s pursuit of art reflects both an insatiable curiosity and a discerning eye. A lifelong student, he forged close ties with leading scholars and curators, collecting with instinct and rigour. Christie’s is proud to present a three-part auction series of American Art in COLLECTOR/CONNOISSEUR: The Max N. Berry Collections. Reflecting the passionate expertise and dedication of a true connoisseur, the collection offers a sweeping narrative of American Art — from Hudson River School and 19th-century genre masterworks to Impressionist gems and 20th-century Realism. One of the most significant holdings of American Art remaining in private hands, the Max N. Berry Collection makes its market debut during Christie’s special Americana Week, commemorating America’s 250th anniversary.

As part of this series, Christie’s is pleased to present a landmark dedicated online sale of monotypes by Maurice Brazil Prendergast. Comprising seventeen unique colour images, it represents the largest group of Prendergast monotypes ever to appear at auction.
