Lot Essay

Monochrome und Feuer was published in a limited edition alongside the catalogue for the famed 1961 exhibition of Yves Klein's work at Museum Haus Lange, Krefeld. The exhibition included monochromes, sponge reliefs, anthropometries and of course the Mur de Feu (wall of fire). The three sheets were rendered in the signature colors of the artist: International Klein Blue, rose and gold (to which Klein added three appliques of gold leaf) and have become iconic examples of the artist's work.
