Seated on a shaped base and backed by a flaming double mandorla, wearing a dhoti with incised hems and a tripartite crown centered by a Buddha, holding a manuscript in front of his chest and a sword aloft

Lot Essay

This well-cast figure displays classic Kashmiri stylistic elements, including the pronounced modeling of the muscles around the navel and strong upper torso, the accentuated roundness of the beaded jewelry, and silver inlaid eyes.
