Lot Essay

Lion and Lioness was originally cast by Gorham Foundry on February 2, 1911 and nineteen castings were eventually made. The present work, number 16, was cast in November 1933 specifically for "Mrs. Huntington," the artist herself, and has remained in her family until the present time.
