"Nella ceramica Melotti rivela un gusto tattile conferendo una presenza davvero sontuosa alla materia, che talora sembra cera liquefatta e poi rappresa, abbinata a una fantasiosa, spiccatissima sensibilità cromatica che lo porta spesso a lavorare intensamente i colori mediante trasparenze, sovrapposizioni, colature, trattamenti informali con la naturale complicità della vampa del fuoco, invocata e temuta al contempo."
