The princely adornments seem to identify the presented figure as a Bodhisattva, however the long flowing hair falling elegantly on both shoulders in long curls as well as his rather youthful appearance point more probably to Gautama Siddharta or Buddha before advancing on his path to enlightenment.
Interestingly is a small section of a rusted iron strut between his feet, just above the base, that once fetched the sculpture against the back wall in order to secure it.
A comparable figure of more modest size and execution is published by H. Ingholt, Gandharan Art in Pakistan, 1957, cat. no. 282, from inside the Great Stupa at Sahri Bahlol.
