Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian Works of Art

Christie’s is honored to offer a masterwork of Indian art — a 12th-century Pala Period black stone figure of Lokanatha Avalokiteshvara -- during our Asian Art Week this March. At almost 5 feet tall, this nearly life-sized work bears an illustrious provenance, including accession by the Boston Museum of Fine Art in 1922, and now is coming to market for the first time since 1976. On Sunday 12 March, the renowned scholar Dr. Pratapaditya Pal will speak on the work’s historical and artistic significance. This sculpture will be offered on Tuesday 14 March during our sale of Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian Art on Tuesday, 14 March that also will feature fine Himalayan bronzes, thangkas and exceptional South Asian sculpture.
