The Black Leather Jacket
Charity Auction
1 – 22 March 2016
To celebrate the opening of a second New York City Flagship, located on 7th Avenue between 17th St. and 16th St. where the original Chelsea location was built in 1923, Barneys New York is taking inspiration from its iconic 1986 “Decorated Denim” event and updating it with a modern twist through a unique online charity auction with Christie’s this March. “The Black Leather Jacket” will benefit two iconic New York nonprofit institutions: The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) Center, and the art-space White Columns.
For a modernized spin on the denim jackets, Barneys is partnering with top artists and designers to create one-of-a-kind leather motorcycle jackets. Jackets from designers Azzedine Alaia, Joseph Altuzarra, Tim Coppens, Isabel Marant, Dries Van Noten, Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, Alexander Wang and artists Susan Cianciolo, Dan Colen, Kim Gordon, Ella Kruglyanskaya, Helmut Lang, Glenn Ligon, Nate Lowman, Marilyn Minter, Rob Pruitt, Ugo Rondinone, Sterling Ruby, Borna Sammak, Anicka Yi, and Lisa Yuskavage will all be auctioned off with Christie's New York, with proceeds benefiting White Columns and The Center.
