The Locré manufactory (1772-1824) is amongst the best known of the Paris factories. J.B. Locré de Roissy established the factory as a 'manufacture de porcelaine allemande on the rue Fontaine-au-Roi, and several months later hired the modeller Laurent Russinger as director. It soon became known for exceptional quality and originality, which the bright and vivid green ground of these vases are testament to. Related to the famous green-ground pigment developed by the Sèvres manufactory from 1756, the pigment of these vases is likely inspired by Chinese celadon and reflects Locré's sensitivity to contemporary tastes.
