AN ATTIC RED-FIGURED BELL-KRATER
ATTRIBUTED TO THE POTHOS PAINTER, CIRCA 430-420 B.C.
The obverse with seated Dionysos, holding a thrysos in his left hand and kantharos in his right, flanked by two standing draped maenads, the one behind holding a thrysos, the one in front looking to her right, an oinochoe in her right hand and a thrysos in her left, to the right a seated nude satyr, his head turned back, holding a rhyton in his right hand, a standing maenad behind, a thrysos in her left hand and a wreath in her right; the reverse with three standing himation-clad youths, two holding a staff, a band of meander and chequered squares below the scenes, laurel below the rim, details in added white and red
