"All works of art are toys, and all toys are works of art" says Michael Lau, the acclaimed Hong Kong artist and the “Godfather of Toy Figures.
From 11 to 27 April, Christie’s Hong Kong will proudly present the “Collect Them All!” selling exhibition, showcasing Michael’s remarkable works against an innovative home-like set-up.
The artist was born during the city’s peak industrialisation period, and as such, each toy he received was a treasure to young Michael, ultimately setting the foundation for what was to become his career. His passion for figure creation and his remarkable achievements has garnered global attention and brought him the opportunity to showcase his works in different cities from Japan and Taipei to London, Seoul and Paris.
Michael believes that all works of arts is not dissimilar to a collector’s toy, driving passionate individuals to acquire until they have built their dream collection. It was this idea that inspired him to present the selling exhibition ‘Collect Them All!’ which will feature over 40 exceptional paintings and sculptures under six themes, including the “Gardener 1999”, “Crazychildren 2000”, “6-inch Vinyl Figures (2003 to 2017)”, “Remember-Disc · Time-Table”, “what? we: want!” and “Package-Change”.
We look forward to seeing you at this one-of-a-kind selling exhibition.
