The 19th Century European Art sale comprises 93 lots from several schools, including a strong selection of Victorian works. Highlights include James Jacques Joseph Tissot’s In the Conservatory (Rivals), property from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which has not been on the market in over three decades. Another Victorian sale highlight is Edmund Blair Leighton’s A Call to Arms (To Arms!), depicting the artist’s best-known subject, an anecdotal scene of England’s past. Additional highlights include a superb mix of Orientalist, Barbizon, and Academic paintings by artists such as Corot, Boldini, Sorolla, Ernst and Béraud.
