Christie's auction of Arts of India totaled £767,188 / $1,236,707 / €962,054.
Romain Pingannaud, Head of Department, Christie’s South Kensington commented: The success of this 'Arts of India' sale, the first to be held in the history of Christie’s South Kensington, illustrates the active demand for fine Indian paintings and Indian jewellery, the latter selling 100% by lot. We are particularly pleased with the results of 'A Private European Collection of Indian art' (lots 1-37) which realised in excess of £200,000, more than doubling its low estimate. We received bids from across the world via Christie's LIVE TM with the participation of a large number of new clients eager to purchase rare and fine pieces. We are very pleased to start Christie's Islamic week with such a strong result, and look forward to the sale of 'Oriental Rugs and Carpets' at King Street on 2 October 2012.
