Sam Hines, Head of the Watches Department, Asia, said, “Building on the success of our spring auction, our record-breaking autumn sale of Important Watches marks the end to the strongest year in the history of the department at Christie’s Hong Kong. Works by Patek Philippe underscored the diverse selection on offer, characterized by excellence in craftsmanship. The Star Calibre 2000 realised HK$25,300,000 (US$3,281,410) becoming the most valuable watch sold in Asia, and the set of four Reference 5004 with unusual dial and case combinations fetched HK$13,760,000 (US$1,784,672), breaking the world record price for each type of case version. Our 92% sold through rate confirms the strength of the market in Asia for collectible timepieces.”
