The most comprehensive group of paintings by Henry Dawson ever to come to auction offers collectors a one-of-a-kind opportunity to acquire one of the works by this remarkable Nottingham artist. Renowned for their spectacular skies, his pictures formed the backbone of Dawson's centenary exhibition at Nottingham in 1978. Among the subjects offered in the sale are maritime views, views on the river Trent and an evocative view of Windsor Castle seen through the morning mist.
Also featured are several views of Venice by William Callow, Edward Pritchett and Arthur Joseph Meadows. Amongst notable pieces of genre are depictions of children, such as Holliday's The Young Cricketer and Kennington's The Picture Book.
Works from the Cranbrook Colony, including a sketch for Webster's Sickness and Health, are also among the offerings as well as landscapes by B W Leader and Sidney Richard Percy, and works by John Atkinson Grimshaw and his son Louis.
