British Pictures 1500-1850 Sale 6463 15 June 2001, 11:00 am 8 King Street, St. James's, London The sale of British Pictures 1500-1850 features an exciting array of portraits, landscapes, marine and sporting pictures. Prominent among the earlier works is John Michael Wright's stunning portrait of Robert Henley, a young archer in classical dress, standing in an italianate landscape (c. 1675). Of a later period is an important group of twelve works led by Mr Henry Wigram's Hacks by the very talented, but little-known, early 19th century sporting artist Thomas Woodward. A friend of Landseer, Woodward's work rarely appears at auction, making this sale an opportunity for collectors.
