On 16 October Christie's will host its sixth annual sale of 20th Century Italian Art in London. The sale will offer an exceptional selection of works by the foremost Italian artists of the 20th century.

The sale starts with twelve classic modern works by Marino Marini, Giorgio Morandi, Massimo Campigli, Giacomo Manzł and some works by Giorgio de Chirico amongst which the imposing 1927 Mobili nella valle.

Furthermore the sale includes a great series of twelve works by Lucio Fontana including a ten cut white Concetto Spaziale, three oils with glass stones and two Treatrini. The sale goes on with three wonderful works by the late Alberto Burri, each an example of his quest to create art through the use of media other than canvas, such as plastic, clay, iron and sackcloth, and transforming these media by means of stitching, sewing, soldering, burning, beating and welding rather than through brushstrokes.

The Arte Povera section is very strong with numerous important works by Alighiero Boetti as well as works by Jannis Kounellis, Pino Pascali, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Giuseppe Penone, Mario Merz, Giulio Paolini and many more…

I look forward to welcoming you hope you will be able to attend the viewing of this sale, which will begin on 11 October at our King Street sale room in London. For those in Italy highlights of the sale will be on view in Turin, Milan, Bologna and Rome. Should you be unable to travel to London or Italy, I will be pleased to send you further information on any piece in the sale which may be of interest to you, so please do not hesitate to contact me.
