Old Battersea House was built on older Tudor foundations in the late 17th century, possibly to a design by Sir Christopher Wren. It passed through the hands of many owners, including Colonel Charles G. Stirling and his wife Wilhemina, the sister of the artist Evelyn De Morgan. After Wilhemina's death in 1965, the house lay empty and neglected for the next five years until Malcolm Forbes, the founder of Forbes Magazine, took lease from Wandsworth Council and undertook a program of restoration. It is under their careful custody that the house has remained ever since and it is where the Forbes Collection of Victorian Pictures & Works of Art has been hung.
Virtual Tours of the Garden Room, Drawing Room and Master Bedroom show the Forbes Collection of Victorian Paintings at Old Battersea House and some of the highlights of the sale.
