Flora Yukhnovich (b.1990) is a British painter whose work reimagines the language of Rococo through a contemporary lens, blending historical references with a sensuous, gestural abstraction. A graduate of the City & Guilds of London Art School and the Heatherley School of Fine Art, Yukhnovich first garnered attention for her evocative canvases that merge the airy opulence of 18th-century French painting with the physical immediacy of modern mark-making.
Influenced by artists such as François Boucher and Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Yukhnovich appropriates the pastel tones and ornamental flourishes of Rococo, deconstructing their visual grammar into loose, expressive compositions. Her work explores the tension between structure and spontaneity, often oscillating between recognisable motifs — cherubs, drapery, floral garlands — and passages of pure abstraction. In doing so, she interrogates questions of taste, femininity and the legacy of art historical canon.
Since her debut with Parafin in London and representation by Victoria Miro, Yukhnovich has achieved swift critical and commercial success. Her paintings have been acquired by major collections and institutions, and her auction results have made headlines.
