In a landmark series of sales to take place in February 2026, Christie’s is proud to present the contents of one of the last great treasure houses of New York. The second day of sales is entitled Irene Roosevelt Aitken: The Drawing Room and French Paintings. This live sale features the contents of the drawing room at 990 Fifth Avenue, comprising French furniture, decorative arts and Sèvres porcelain, including a gilt‑wood pliant made for Marie‑Antoinette and a magnificent Louis XIII Savonnerie carpet. An impressive array of ormolu‑mounted celadon porcelain vases is complemented by French Old Master paintings and drawings including works by Nicolas Lancret and Jean‑Honoré Fragonard.
Irene Aitken was a true devotee of the arts and, to further her legacy of generosity, proceeds of the collection will go to the three New York cultural institutions closest to her heart: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Frick Collection and The Morgan Library & Museum.
