Collation: a-h10 i-l12 m-s10 t-v12 x-y10 1-610 7-1012 11-1310 1412 15-1710 1812 A-D12 (a1r St. Jerome's prologue, a3v Genesis-Psalms, x1r Proverbs-Maccabees, 11/1r New Testament, 18/12v colophon, A1r Interpretationes of Hebrew names, D12 blank). 469 (of 470, without final blank) leaves. 57 lines and headline, double column. Type: 6:65G, 7:130G. Illuminated by a contemporary Venetian artist, the first page with 15-line initial in blue and green on a magenta and gold ground with white patterning and extensions, headline on illusionistic scroll, central baguette terminating in Jesuit symbol within laurel wreath, floral extensions with gold dots in all borders, major initials opening prologues and books in gold on a green, blue or magenta gound with white or yellow patterning, smaller initials and paragraph marks in red or blue, some yellow capital strokes. (Small sections of fore-margins of first and final few quires lost through mildew, illumination on first page shaved and with small tear with slight loss at fore-margin, one initial smudged, occasional staining.) 18th-century calf, arms of Pope Pius VI at centre of sides, roll-tooled border, gilt spine, green edges (somewhat worn and stained). Provenance: Pope Pius VI (Giovanni Angelo Braschi, Pope 1775-1799, binding).
