ENGINE: SIX CYLINDER, 2993CC, OVERHEAD VALVE, 93 BHP AT 4000RPM; GEARBOX: FOUR SPEED MANUAL; BRAKES: LOCKHEAD HYDRAULIC SYSTEM, DRUM FRONT AND REAR; SUSPENSION: FRONT, INDEPENDENT, COIL SPRINGS AND ANTI-ROLL BAR, REAR, RIGID AXLE, SEMI-ELLIPTIC LEAF SPRINGS.

THE ALVIS COMPANY AND OF COURSE THEIR PRODUCTS HAD AN ENVIABLE REPUTATION FROM THEIR BEGINNINGS IN CAR PRODUCTION IN 1920 UNTIL THEY CEASED IN 1967. THIS REPUTATION WAS FOUNDED UPON HIGH QUALITY, LONG LIFE AND BETTER-THAN-AVERAGE PERFORMANCE.

THE THREE LITRE ALVIS WAS INTRODUCED AT THE GENEVA MOTOR SHOW IN MARCH 1950 AND WAS ONE OF THE LONGEST LIVED DESIGNS OF THIS CLASSIC PERIOD. BETWEEN 1950 AND 1956 THE 3 LITRE APPEARED AS THE TA21, TB21, TC21 AND TC21/100, THE LATTER BEING THE FIRST POST-WAR 100MPH SALOON.

THE TA21 HAD A NEW CHASSIS WITH INDEPENDENT FRONT SUSPENSION AND USED A SIX CYLINDER ENGINE RATHER THAN THE FORMER FOUR. FOUR DOOR SALOON AND TWO DOOR DROPHEAD COUPE BODYSTYLES WERE AVAILABLE BY H J MULLINER AND TICKFORD RESPECTIVELY. THE DROPHEAD VERSION WAS VERY PROGRESSIVE FOR ALVIS AND HAD A MODERN AND SOPHISTICATED LOOK ACCENTUATED BY THE RAKISH REAR SPATS.

THIS VERY ATTRACTIVE COACHBUILT ALVIS SADLY HAS COME FROM A DECEASED ESTATE, AND WAS THE SUBJECT OF A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF RESTORATION WORK BEFORE THE OWNER DIED. THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY RE-PAINTED IN MAROON, RE-TRIMMED IN NEW BROWN LEATHER AND FITTED WITH A NEW BEIGE HOOD. IT IS THE UPRATED SPECIFICATION MODEL WITH THE TWIN CARBURETTORS WHICH GREATLY ENHANCES THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS ELEGANT TOURING CAR. ANOTHER NICE FEATURE OF THIS PARTICULAR EXAMPLE IS THE WIRE WHEELS.

THE OVERALL CONDITION IS DESCRIBED AS EXCELLENT IN ALL RESPECTS, IT DRIVES WELL AND COMES WITH A NEW M.O.T. CERTIFICATE.
