Sketches by Sir Francis Grant, P.R.A. Lots 159-161 The following drawings come from an album of studies and music composed by Sir Hope Grant, who was the youngest brother of Francis Grant, he was a talented soldier who served under Sir Colin Campbell (1776-1847) in India.

A similar sketch to that showing the lady seated at the table was illustrated in Country Life, 13 May 1949. The sitter was there identified as Grant's wife, and it is likely that she was also the sitter for the present sketch.
