These bronze busts are clearly influenced by the sculptor Jean Raon, who executed a series of decorative busts in marble with a similar 'herm' format. The present pair rest on tortoiseshell-veneered bases identical to those on a pair of bronze figures of Urania and Clio in the Wallace Collection, London (illustrated in Mann, loc. cit.).
