HELMUT NEWTON (1920-2004)
Newton has posed his model with her arms hanging free and away from her body. He referred to this as his 'gunslinger's pose' as it called to mind a ubiquitous image from Westerns -- the moment before the drawing of a gun from a hip holster. Newton appreciated the visual effect of keeping the arms clear of the contour line of the body, and the subliminal echo of the implied sense of threat.
